President of the State Audit Institution and Auditor General, Mr. Radoslav Sretenovic, participated in the seminar dedicated to role of Supreme Audit Institutions in sustainable development audit in Skoplje on 26th September. Seminar was organized within 14th Annual Meeting of EUROSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing, where the host was the State Audit Institution of the Republic of Macedonia.
Goal of the seminar was to inform Supreme Audit Institutions from the region about the concept and methods of conducting environmental auditing, as well as challenges the auditors are faced with when conducting that type of audit.
Participation in the seminar was supported by the Advancing Accountability Mechanisms in the Public Finances Project, implemented by the State Audit institution and United Nations Development Program (UNDP), financed by the Swedish Government.
Within the seminar, panel discussion was organized on challenges of the Supreme Audit Institutions in sustainable development audit, where Mr. Radoslav Sretenovic, Auditor General, said that in the second Strategic Plan of SAI of Serbia for the period 2016-2020, it was planned to continue with further development of the performance auditing and training for implementation of environmental auditing. He highlighted that it was precisely the direction the State Audit institution of Serbia would take when it comes to contributions to realization of sustainable development goals. Performance audit implementation, which reviews economy, efficiency and effectiveness of key government programs, will give contribution to certain aspects of sustainable development goals, Mr. Sretenovic said.
He noted that the National Assembly and stakeholders in the Republic of Serbia show great interest in results of performance audits. In that sense, the State Audit Institution will continue with development of Performance Audit Sector and training in order to perform special purpose audits, including environmental auditing.
