Annual Contact Committee Meeting of the Heads of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the European Union

Annual Contact Committee Meeting of the Heads of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the European Union and the European Court of Auditors was organized by the European Court of Auditors on 12th and 13th October in Luxembourg.

Annual meeting was attended by the delegation of the State Audit Institution, with status of observers, comprising President of the Institution, Mr. Radoslav Sretenovic, and Head of the Office of the President and Liaison Officer for Contact Committee and Network of SAI of Acceding, Candidate and Potential Candidate Countries and the European Court of Auditors, Ms. Iva Vasilić.

Main topic of the meeting was whether European and national auditors may assist in restoring the lost trust of the EU citizens. Presidents exchanged their views and experiences in relations with stakeholders and discussed possibilities of making SAI activities closer to citizens, via innovative audit products and enhanced communication manner.

Topics and results of individual working groups, networks and project groups of the Contact Committee had been discussed on the meeting.

Regarding marking of 40-year anniversary of the European Court of Auditors, on 12th October there was an official celebration, attended by the Royal Highness, Grand Duke and Duchess of Luxembourg, as well as by the President of the European Parliament, Mr. Antonio Tajani, President of the Republic of Estonia, Ms. Kersti Kaljulaid, as representative of the EU Council, President of the European Court of Auditors, Mr.Klaus-Heiner Lehneand other high representatives of the diplomatic corps and representatives of SAIs.

European Court of Auditors was established by the Treaty of Brussels on 22nd July 1975, and commenced working on 18th October 1977. Members of the European Court of Auditors held their first meeting on 25th October 1977.

Contact Committee is an autonomous, independent and non-political assembly of heads of SAIs of EU member states and ECA. It serves as a forum for asking questions of mutual interest regarding EU, as well as for discussions on those questions.Via improvement of cooperation amongst its members, Contact Committee brings effective external audit and responsibility to EU, and improvement of financial management of EU and good management to the benefit of EU citizens.

The next meeting of the Contact Committee will be held in Dubrovnik, on 12-13th October 2018.
