President of the State Audit Institution (SAI) and Auditor-General, Mr. Radoslav Sretenovic, participated in the Conference dedicated to cooperation between Anti-Corruption Agency and state bodies in fighting corruption, which marked 9th December, International Anti-corruption Day.
At the conference, President of SAI said that effective fight against corruption undoubtedly demands transparency and cooperation among all relevant stakeholders, so that each interested institution performs delegated tasks and ensures functional exchange of information.
"State Audit Institution is in unique position to fight corruption due to its insight into all financial transactions executed by public funds beneficiaries. In order for SAI to effectively contribute to anti-corruption efforts, it is particularly important to highlight that external audit creates transparency, makes risks visible and builds strong and efficient financial management and control system, in order to provide special contribution to anti-corruption efforts, in the spirit of the United Nations Convention against Corruption", Mr. Sretenovic said.
Auditor-General touched upon significance of the Action Plan for Implementation of the National Anti Corruption Strategy in the Republic of Serbia for the period 2013-2018. He also highlighted significance of the Memorandum of Understanding between SAI and Anti-Corruption Agency and other relevant bodies, for the purpose of realization of goals regarding prevention of corruption in the area of public finances and health care system. "Close cooperation among all stakeholders is certainly the best possible tool for resolving corruption issues in states and institutions", Mr. Sretenovic concluded.
Cooperation among all institution was addressed at the conference by Vice-President of the Government and Minister of Interior, Mr. Nebojsa Stefanovic, Special Prosecutor for High-Tech Crime, Mr. Branko Stamenkovic, Vice-President of the Board of the Anti-Corruption Agency, Ms. Dragana Kolaric and Director of the Agency, Ms. Tatjana Babic.
