President of the Account Chamber of the Russian Federation, Mr. Sergei Stepashin, completed a two-day visit to Serbia, at the invitation of the State Audit Institution. Mr. Sretenović emphasized, at the meeting held at the State Audit Institution, that it was necessary to improve cooperation between Supreme State Institutions of Serbia and Russia.
Having signed the Memorandum on Cooperation between State Audit Institution and Account Chamber in 2011 in Lisbon, we will undertake specific measures towards mutual cooperation. They will include exchange of experience in the area of methodology, training and education of staff, exchange of information material, implementation of mutual research projects, mutual consultations and seminars, as well as study tours, Mr. Sretenović concluded. Mr. Sretenović presented information on the Institution at the meeting attended also by the members of the Council of SAI, and he emphasized that the SAI was facing inadequate business premises, which hindered employment of the new staff.

The President of the Account Chamber of the Russian Federation, Mr. Sergei Stepashin, suggested mutual audit in the areas in which the two countries have mutual projects, for the purpose of implementing mutual cooperation.
Each year, we organize mutual audits with supreme audit institutions from other countries. Therefore, we have excellent experience in that area. That is good, because cooperation between supreme audit institutions encourages development of our countries, Stepashin emphasized. Auditor-General of the Russian Federation promised that he would send to the Serbian colleagues the most interesting audit reports, scientific analyses and studies, and that it would be his pleasure to have the Serbian colleagues visit the Account Chamber in order to receive training. Stepashin said that, at his initiative, representatives of judicial bodies participate in the work of Russian auditors, which has significantly improved audit efficiency. Speaking on relations between Serbia and Russia, Stepashin said that the relations had always been good, but they had gotten excellent in the past two years. He reminded that the two countries were realizing numerous mutual projects, such as Gazprom, Southern Stream, railway reconstruction, and that the experience could be exchanged in fight against corruption, while audit of efficiency could be conducted, regarding realization of the loan approved by the Russian Federation to the Republic of Serbia.
In addition to meeting Mr. Radoslav Sretenovic, the President of the State Audit Institution, Mr. Sergei Stepashin also met the President of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Tomislav Nikolic, the Chairman of the National Assembly, Mr. Nebojša Stefanović and Prime-Minister, Mr. Ivica Dačić.
