The Supreme Audit Institution of the Russian Federation, which chairs the Supervisory Committee for Emerging Issues (SCEI) of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), organized a webinar on "SAI Priorities in the COVID-19 Pandemic: Topics, Methods and Techniques of Auditing", followed by the representatives of the State Audit Institution of Serbia.
The first seminar of this Expert Group at the INTOSAI level on the strategic role of the SAI in solving the challenges posed by the COVID-19 Pandemic was attended by Dr. Dusko Pejovic, President of the SAI and Auditor General, Danimir Vulinovic and Snezana Trnjakovic, Supreme State Auditors, Natalija Pausic, State Auditor and Milena Leković, Independent Audit Advisor.
The discussion covered topics related to the current way of working of the supreme audit institutions and the main challenges they faced at the height of the outbreak of the new Coronavirus. Discussions included SAI's main expectations and predictions regarding the long-term consequences that the COVID-19 pandemic could have on their work, the specific activities that the SAI will suspend, initiate and continue, as well as the SAI's role in promoting good governance.
In the introductory speeches, the participants of the webinar were greeted by Alexei Kudrin, President of the SAI of the Russian Federation and Chairman of INTOSAI and SCEI, and Dr. Margit Kraker, President of the SAI of Austria and Secretary General of INTOSAI.
The Initiative on COVID-19 INTOSAI Committee on Policy, Finance and Administration (PFAC) was presented by Gene Dodaro, US Auditor General, Director of the US Government Accountability Office and SCEI Vice President, while Jorge Bermudes Soto spoke on procurement audits and corruption risks during COVID-19, who is Auditor General of Chile and Executive Secretary of the SAI of Latin America and the Caribbean (OLACEFS).
The experience of how the European Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (EUROSAI) responded to COVID-19 was presented by Kevin Summersgill, Head of International Relations and Technical Cooperation of the SAI of Great Britain and chairman of the EUROSAI Project Group for auditing the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jan van Schalwick, Corporate Executive Director of the Office of the Auditor General of the SAI of the Republic of South Africa and a representative of the Secretariat of the INTOSAI Capacity Building Committee (CBC) briefed participants on the initial deliberations in the SAI of the Republic of South Africa on responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
