Delegation of the State Audit Institution, comprising dr Dusko Pejovic, Supreme State Auditor, Slavica Djuric, State Auditor and Tomislav Jovanovic, Senior Advisor for European Integrations, participated in the work of the firstannual meeting of the EUROSAI Task Force on Municipality Audit and the first seminar on municipality audit for Supreme Audit Institutions members of EUROSAI, held in Riga, Latvia, from 5th until 7th October 2017, organized by SAI of Latvia and SAI of Lithuania. Meeting was attended by 64 participants from 30 countries.
The first annual meeting of the EUROSAI Task Force on Municipality Audit saw discussion of the implementation plan for three strategic goals from the Work Plan of the EUROSAI Task force for the period 2017-2020. Participants exchanged experiences on the best practices in municipality audit, talked on external audit systems in the European Union, possibilities of conducting coordinated audits, as well as on other strategic issues.
Topic of the first Seminar of the EUROSAI Task Force on Municipality Audit was "Added value from Supreme Audit Institution audits conducted in municipalities". Goal of the Seminar was to define specific results achieved through work of the Supreme Audit Institutions regarding municipality audit, as well as to exchange information on development of planning system in municipalities. Added value was chosen as the central theme of the seminar in order to emphasize the relevance of municipality audits, as well as direct and indirect benefits they bring at both local and national levels.
The next meeting of EUROSAI Task Force on Municipality Audit will be held in Belgrade in Autumn 2018.
EUROSAI Task Force on Municipality Audit was established in June 2016. Its membership stands at 27 SAIs members of EUROSAI. SAI Lithuania is the initiator and the chair of the Task Force. Bearing in mind relevance of the competence of the Institution for auditing local governments' budgets, the State Audit Institution of the Republic of Serbia became member of the EUROSAI Task Force on Municipality Audit in December 2016, with a view of further developing audit methodology, and contributing to improvement of municipality audit system, so that audit results may lead to positive changes for their inhabitants.
The meeting was organized with the support of "Enhancement of Municipal Audit for Accountability and Efficiency in Public Finance Management" Project, implemented by the State Audit institution and United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
