The State Audit Institution of the Republic of Serbia celebrated the first ten years of existence and work with ceremony held in the Palace of Serbia on June 7, 2017.
The President of the State Audit Institution and General State Auditor Radoslav Sretenovic, the Vice President of the Council of the State Audit Institution Bojana Mitrovic, members of the Council of the State Audit Institution, the Secretary of the Institution, the employees, the envoy of the President of the Republic of Serbia Nikola Selakovic, ministers, assistant ministers, state secretaries, fund directors, representatives of 18 SAIs, including representatives of the European Court of Auditors and OECD/SIGMA, as well as representatives of embassies and international organizations in the Republic of Serbia attended the ceremony celebrating the first decade of work.
Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Veroljub Arsic, Chairwoman of the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending, Aleksandra Tomic, President of the SAI of the Czech Republic, Miloslav Kala, President of the SAI of Bulgaria Tzvetan Tzvetkov and President of the SAI of Montenegro Milan Dabovic addressed the audience as guests of honour.
Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Veroljub Arsic, congratulated all the officials and employees of the SAI Serbia for the first ten years of their work and said that 2012 was the year of the change in the attitude of the authorities to the Institution. "The National Assembly for the first time publicly, at its sessions, reviews the work report of the State Audit Institution. For the first time, our parliament accomplished its constitutional obligation to control the spending of public funds. The institution not only legally but also essentially takes its place in the legal order of Serbia and is accepted not only by the Assembly, but also by the Government as a state body that helps both to spend public funds in accordance with the law and in the spirit of a good governance, "said Arsic.
The Chairwoman of the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending, Aleksandra Tomic, pointed out "joint work with the State Audit Institution and establishment of the Subcommittee for reviewing the audit reports of the State Audit Institution, as one of the important steps for the oversight of the public funds’ spending. Our task this year for the past year is great, but it is a proof that SAI Serbia started working at its full capacity, "added Tomic.
The president of the Supreme Audit Institution of the Czech Republic, Miloslav Kala, addressed the attendees with the following: "The first few years are the most challenging, to convince others that the work of an audit institution is necessary, to bring added value and to have its purpose, all of which are tasks it must be dedicated to. I am convinced that the State Audit Institution has managed to establish itself as an indispensable institution in the country for its ten years of operation, not only in the eyes of other institutions, government and state administration bodies, but also in the eyes of the public we all serve". Kala said that he was convinced that the future cooperation between the two institutions would bring very useful results.
President of the Bulgarian Supreme Audit Institution, Tzvetan Tzvetkov, congratulated the State Audit Institution of the Republic of Serbia for ten years of existence and expressed satisfaction that the two institutions have developed very successful and useful cooperation over the years.
After addressing honourable guests, President of the State Audit Institution of the Republic of Serbia and Auditor General, Radoslav Sretenovic, addressed the audience: "As president of the State Audit Institution, it is a great pleasure for me to celebrate the ten-year anniversary during my mandate. For me personally, the greatest source of pride is the opportunity to contribute to the growth, improvement and proper functioning of the Institution."
